About

Welcome to my portfolio! The work you will find here results from my interest in photography and fine art.

The animal portraits are studies of light, composition, and especially texture. They are my attempt to bypass the human tendency to anthropomorphize and illuminate a—different—animal 'soul'.

The still lifes reflect my interest in 17th century tenebrism, and the contrast (arising from the passage of time) that exists between the utensils and vessels of daily life and the perishable nature of food and drink. Nostalgia—both personal and remote—is the heart of these images. The 'Barn Light Series' is an ongoing examination of heirloom objects captured in the ever-changing light of my parents' rundown barn, located near Lashburn, SK. The others are reiterations of 'Old World' imagery with the inclusion of 'New World' objects: expressions of 'change in continuity', or 'continuity in change'. Harvested ‘New World’ animals, fish, and produce are placed alongside ‘Old World’ produce and vessels toward an intentional, and hopefully seamless, ahistoricism.

The photographs found in Architecture, People, and Places result from my passion for travel, and a consuming interest in both humankind and the natural or built environment.
